On Sun. Sept 5 at 4 p.m., I’ll be reading The Kugel Valley Klezmer Band by Joan Betty Stuchner at the Ashkenaz Festival, Harbourfront Centre, Toronto. I’ll accompanied by three klezmer musicians. It should be fun for people of all ages. Try to attend!
I’ll do a reading of The Orphan Rescue at the Toronto Jewish Book Fair in October. More details to follow
Second Story Press will be publishing my historical fiction novel, "The Orphan Rescue", in September 2010. This book is set in 1937 Poland. I tell the story of a Jewish boy who is sent to an orphanage and how his sister tries to rescue him.
I'm revising another historical fiction book that takes place in Germany and the Netherlands, 1703-4. I call it The Baby Experiment. If a child is prevented from hearing all language during his formative years, what language will he end up speaking? Stay tuned for more news about this book.
I've also started working on a science fiction book that takes place in the near future. More information to come.
I've been contributing podcasts about Jewish music and literature in Canada for Heidi Estrin's podcast: http://www.jewishbooks.blogspot.com/. So far, here are some segments I've made: (1) a discussion with my writers' group, (2) an interview with Aubrey Davis, author of Bagels from Benny, (3) an interview with Orit Shimoni, leader of Little Birdie Band from Montréal. But wait. There are more: (4) An interview with award-winning author Kathy Kacer, and (5) the launch of David Sax's new book, Save the Deli. Be sure to come back for my report on the Canadian Jewish Book Awards and an interview with author, Rona Arato.
